Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!
searchforpeace: ([103] The thoughts that I’ve come to)

Mineva Lao Zabi | Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

[personal profile] searchforpeace 2014-01-14 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
#2: Explosions underground!
[Unlike some who've arrived on this new wave of people, Mineva is unfortunately not a fighter. Self-defense was one thing but wielding a weapon or piloting a mech (or Gundam) was not something she had ever done. So when it came to way to aid the Fleet, Mineva honestly had one thing to offer - her gift of speech making and negotiation.

Well, when not attending school for more training. This was a rare and wonderful opportunity for a girl so cloistered and hidden away most of her life.

She had offered to aid the trading party in keeping peace with the penal colony and it's wardens as supplies were exchanged. Placating everyone was as crucial a task as any and things had gone very well... before the attack.

But if there is one thing Mineva Lao Zabi knows how to do? It's run. And that's precisely what she's doing now after grabbing hold of the arm of one of the people who arrived with her.]

This way.

#10: Explosions in your minds!
[Part of what counts for the Fleet as useful behavior is training. And that's precisely what Mineva does when not engaging in more political and peacekeeping tasks. And part of training?

Study nights.]

#10: Explosions in your minds! (again)
[Free prompt. If you've got something in mind, feel free to toss it up!]

Minmay Lynn | Macross [Flashback 2012]

[personal profile] angelpaints 2014-01-14 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
#3: Explosions over the city!
[How could Minmay be anything but the main attraction? After all, hadn't she been the poster girl for UN Spacy at home? When the Fleet said she had to find a way to help, the choice had seemed more than obvious.

It was fascinating to start somewhere where few if anyone knew your name. It reminded her of her first days of recognition, taking to the stage in simple sets and simple displays.

In spite of that though, she doesn't want to miss the fireworks. So after her relatively small performance is over, she's off again from the stage to go find the best viewing spot for those fireworks!]

#10: Explosions in your mind!
[If you've got an idea, feel free to run with it!]
fallingrain: ([03])

Rain Mikamura | G Gundam

[personal profile] fallingrain 2014-01-14 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
#4: Explosions on an asteroid!
[Rain doesn't mind piloting the utilitarian mining suits really. The work is repetative and a little dull but after her time in the Gundam fights, she could use something dull for once.

At the moment the woman is on break, sitting in the control room watching over the others out working the asteroid for now. All seems relatively calm really but... is that something moving?

Leaning into one of the communicators, Rain calls out:]

Unit 021, have you seen anything unusual on the ground?

#10: Explosions in your mind!
[Today one will run across Rain Mikamura in the loading bay, elbow deep in one of the many suits that have turned up. Well, when she's not one of the ones called over to deal with the newly awakening robots. And how does she look about all of these developments?

Like a kid in a candy store, that's how. She's practically glowing.]

Just look at the design! It's absolutely fascinating!

#10: Explosions in your mind! (Again)

Eve (Code Nemesis) | Elsword

[personal profile] spearsurfing 2014-01-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[3: Explosions over the city!]
[Eve was watching the fireworks alongside everyone else... but the more she watched, the more she thought about how she could do so much better.

So for the last few minutes, she's been working off to the side with some hastily "sketched" blueprints (using convenient holoscreens, which are floating all around her now), her twin drones working away on some smaller screens to assist. Except, well, if you take a peek and look at it... that looks more like some kind of giant rocket launcher than a fireworks launcher...

Good thing she can't build it right now! ... Right?]

Agent 779/Splicer | Starcraft OC

[[Returning from #1]]

"Another mission, another flurry of marks under my belt. All's in a day's work huh guys?" With a smirk, Splicer turned up the radio and boosted off into the hangar, landing his baby gently before grabbing his gear and getting out of his custom Wraith.

He looked around to see if anyone else had come back from the dogfight already or if they had gone to the planet to search for straglers or help some of the locals. Him? He had no aspirations to do either of those. He followed protocol, did his thing and was now back at home base awaiting the next set of orders while he enjoyed him a nice well earned reward.

Popping the cap off his bottle, Splicer took a nice log swig before popping a cigarette unto his lips and lighting it with the tip of his fingers.

"Feels good to be back under command. Can't think straight on my own," he joked, a small chuckle as he tok a puff from the cancer stick.

Lal'c Melk Mal - Diebuster

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-14 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
1:
[ As the klaxons sound signalling the coming of the attack, Lar'c puts her hand to her forehead to lift off the small, white object -- and then pauses to curse, hot and under her breath. She's sure the administrators of the Confederation fleet would make good on their threat to ground her if another civilian filed a report of a gigantic robot in a area like this shopping center during an external emergency. And going down the main corridors would be a slow slog of pushing her way past every single concerned or panicked civilian. No, she needs to be in Diex-Newf as soon as she can manage it, and that means avoiding the normal routes down to the hanger.

Lar'c slips to the side of the corridor, out of the way of crowd to scan the layout. A small corridor sign catches her eye: it bears a symbol for an maintenance hatch and she smiles to herself grimly before pushing off from the wall towards the door. She's trying not to hit anyone or be hit, but she's not so much paying attention as she is weaving through the crowd on instinct and force of her glare.
]

Coming through!

7:
[ Lar'c is taking a moment to herself in one of the observation areas, curled up on a bench with her jacket around her shoulders to watch the remains of the stars streaming past the fingertips of the hand she's pressed against the window. She's staring, blinking very slowly as she traces the patterns of the trailing stars beneath her hands. Given her occupied air, it's quite possible Lar'c has forgotten that she's in a public room where someone could come by and see her.

But the bench has quite a lot of room left, given she's so small, and it is a prime viewing spot: maybe company would not go entirely amiss.

Spock - Prime; Nu Trek

[personal profile] onedamnminute 2014-01-14 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
3.
He's seen fireworks a hundred times before, and yet today, standing alone in the crowd of people watching on the promenade, Spock is shaken to the core by the lights in the sky above him.

He's quiet, maintaining control, but he can't even find himself to envy the pleasure of the people around him. There are small children punching their hands up into the sky, and whoops and coos as the fireworks splinter the sky into whirling lights. It cuts at a raw, open wound in his chest, and the man who gave up his home only to lose another turns from the joyous display, concealing the tell-tale tremble of his hands in his long sleeves.

He needs to meditate, but a cup of tea will steady his hands. He can be found on the promenade or leaving it, or else sitting at a table, a warm cup of spiced tea set on the table before him, hands steepled and eyes closed.

7.
Space. This was where he belonged. It shines with an incandescent beauty, but someone would have to pull Spock up to make him remark on it even now. It's much more interesting to him as a nebula, residual elements scattered among the stars, waves of radiation that revealed themselves in a glittering spectrum. Occasionally he thought he could see ionised sparks of electricity leaping among the scattered dust.

There.

He was sure about it. His eyes narrowed, expressing concern. If the radiation were dangerous, the fleet wouldn't be taking this route--of course there was the possibility that they didn't know...

No, he was thinking like a science officer. A First Officer. He was getting too old for it.

9.

There is a young, dark-skinned man standing by one of the fruit stalls, patiently examining the goods on offer with a grimace that suggests he views fresh fruit the way some people view dead voles. Nothing he sees is familiar, let alone palatable, but he is very hungry and he has money to burn, at least for now. He gingerly picks up a spiky fruit the colour of earwax and holds it up to the light.

"Good Lord," he mutters to himself and then turns to the person standing next to him and gestures with the fruit. "What do you think, dearest? Edible? Poison? Equipment for an exotic ballgame?"

His voice is alto, pleasant but heavily accented. He sounds like he grew up speaking Russian and Yiddish and tried -- unsuccessfully -- to train the accent out of his speech patterns.

He smells of expensive perfume, strongly enough that anyone within a metre radius would notice. The hand holding the offending fruit is manicured and delicate, the hand of a pianist. His other hand clutches cream kid gloves in a rather paroxysmal grip.

Boromir - LotR

[personal profile] doesnotsimply 2014-01-14 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Boromir had been going stir crazy ever since arriving in this place that he was told to call a "ship", though it sailed on no sea he could understand nor looked like any ship he had ever seen; so much so that it was almost a relief when the inhuman shriek echoed through the labyrinthine tunnels of the "ship" and a woman's dispassionate voice announced that they were under attack. Following the signposted directions to the area that he was being told the enemy had breached, and guessing from the amount of foot traffic fleeing from that direction, he headed for the battle to see what good could be done.

8) Explosions on the Road.

[Data arrived on the scene just moments after the wreck, attempting to extract the young hoodlum driver from his land car. Impossibly strong android fingers are peeling away pressed aluminum and steel like it's tissue paper, his face eerily blank as he works. He'll attempt to get the computerized traffic up and running again shortly, but for now, he's trying to save the life.]

10) Explosions in your mind!

[Even androids can drink. Small amounts. Very small amounts. Data has learned by a monkey-see, monkey-do method of social interaction, and knows that beverages are an intrinsic part of humanoid culture. So, he modified his insides just enough to sip small amounts of liquid, collect the liquid, and then dispose of it later in private. Join him in a drink, won't you?]

[This wasn't the first time, he had ever seen the wonders of space, he had seen it countless times through trips on the bifrost, but there is something different about seeing it from a ship. Moving just slow enough to be able to actually look at the wonders of space with a more critical eye.

Funny how numerous explosions of gases could yield such beauty. Even the Trickster wasn't immune from having a moment of reflection. The situation he finds himself in, is still an odd one, but it sparks his curiosity all the same.]

9.

[Of course when it comes to looking at the various alien designs on daggers and other weapons, Loki can resist having a look. He still only really likes using his own daggers made to his own specifications, but there is something to be said to poach ideas from others for much needed changes.

Thus he picks up a dagger and looks it over with a critical eye, considering if it might be worth purchasing. Though he is not so distracted that he doesn't feel someone brush past him. Sorry, he doesn't have pockets that are easily accessible and his reflexes are quick enough to capture the hand that is trying to steal from him. ]

You have made a grave miscalculation in your choice of target.

[He is quick to put the dagger he was checking against the offenders throat. This could get ugly if someone doesn't step in and stop him.]

9: Explosions in the marketplace!
[ The marketplace is loud and crowded and a lot more chaotic than Cloud knows how to deal with - but that's still well within bearable limits, considering everything else about this situation that's overwhelming. And, besides-- The familiar stuff he finds among all the weird and new (and sometimes really creepy) makes up for it, somewhat.

Which isn't to say he's avoiding trying anything new, exactly - but given the wary way he examines the stand of distinctly alien fruit in front of him, now, there's a good chance he hasn't yet worked up the courage to venture beyond the known. Even if it's apparently quite the popular item - while Cloud's trying to decide whether those are scales on the outside of the lumpy, questionable fruit he's staring at, another overeager patron lunges right on in, beside him, and gathers up a whole armful (tentacleful??).

And then takes off with all of it, before the equally alien vendor can turn back around to tally up the cost. The crowd parts to let the thief barrel through, but Cloud's a little quicker to react, grabbing one of the fallen fruits (he's pretty sure they're fruit) from the stand and-- ]
H-Hey! [ ...hucking it after the shoplifter, hoping to slow him down.

The good news is: it's a solid hit. ...The bad news is: it doesn't hit the individual he was aiming for.

Oops. ]

10: Explosions in your mind!
[ The thing about space is... It's not great if you've already got a weak sense of equilibrium. You know, all that flying around? The upside-downness? The occasional, sudden loss of artificial gravity?

It's basically motion sickness city.

And just like always, that's more than enough to put Cloud out of commission with considerable regularity. Whether it's just off a particularly long trip by shuttle, or just out of a cramped elevator, he's the guy leaning up against the wall with his head down or huddled over in the nearest seat (or maybe free-floating and trying not to look too desperate to get back to the ground), trying to convince his inner ears that he knows better than they do which way is up. ]

in which i am a miserable combo breaker and there are no explosions, i'm sorry 8(

[Eventually, the fleet finds a new planet, makes contact with a new race.

And when it does, it had better count itself lucky that a career diplomat is present.

She's out of the ship and onto the unfamiliar (lush) terrain first, with a blaster she wishes isn't needed by her side. In a perfect universe, it wouldn't be; in a perfect universe, negotiation would always take precedence over violence, and self-defense training would have never been mandated by Captain Panaka during her time as Queen. But unfaltering idealism doesn't make her naive enough to believe that such a universe exists.

All is quiet is thus far, apart from the occasional background calls of what is most likely the local fauna, and something that sounds like a waterfall somewhere in the distance. There's a beauty in it, a sense of peace, something not unlike home. For the moment, she's simply taking in her surroundings. Not complacent, but at ease.]

Oswald / Glen Baskerville | Pandora Hearts ... 9 or pick your own! \o/

[personal profile] jackstabbed 2014-01-15 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ Daggers and fruit hold little interest for Oswald. For one thing, he isn't particularly fond of foods that go squish and leak juice everywhere when he bites them. For another, he doesn't really need any additional weapons. Moreover many other trinkets, while they may hold passing interest and incite his curiosity, are too alien for him to be particularly comfortable with yet. But if there's one thing that transcends time and worlds, it's music - and some instruments seem to be near universal.

Therefore, for quite some time Oswald can be found browsing a stall or two devoted to instruments of all kind. He comes from a time pre-dating electricity, so some of them seem almost magical, but even he can recognize a piano...like... thing when he sees it - and it is this more than aught else which holds his attention.

The problem is, he can't quite seem to get the hang of adjusting the settings to properly test it out. Feeling generous? Want to help an out of place pianist out? ]

Blowing off steam in the gym was how Steve kept his head cool after a hard and trying day. Unfortunately, this wasn't exactly a private gym. More often than not, his escape to go punch out his feelings, literally, was interrupted by another member of the crew.

Today, the bags were taking a beating. The soldier hit fist after fist into the bag, only stopping when it came close to flying off the chains. He would steady it, calm his breathing, and start in again.

Approaching him when he got like this was not always the best idea, but anyone who wanted to risk it could try. The soldier could be a bit of a stubborn hot head when he got like this, and he had a history of never backing down.

Bandits, or so the excited yells of the others in the ship were saying, and he'd caught sight of a smaller ship breaking off and approaching.

Well, bandits would want to board at some point, right? He could see sparks flying where the tiny shuttle was trying to cut through bulkheads, and cast around to see if there was anything to use as a weapon or cover. Those boarders were going to have a surprise on their hands if Tron had a say in it...]

[Space was distressingly like home, or at least his dim memory of 511's sky and the network connections gleaming overhead. Small wonder that he had stopped to look out the windows, almost pressed to them really, as the fleet navigated the nebula. Truly, the User world was full of strange things...

He was absorbed enough that he wasn't perhaps watching around him as well as he could. Company could probably actually corner him for a talk if they wanted.]

Helen didn't even hesitate to jump into the fight, despite not really knowing her enemy at all. She didn't know exactly what they were capable of, or what their battle tactics were like. Jumping in so blindly was risky as hell, but Helen liked to take risks, and if it got her killed, at least she had fun.

Unfortunately for her, she only had her sword but that didn't stop her from jumping in to the battle with a cocky little smirk, shouting at the enemy and daring them to come and get her. It was a good thing she had her strength and speed to make up for her weaponry....

3.
Having come from a medieval world, fireworks were yet another thing she'd never seen in her life. Poor Helen was amongst the crowd, cheering happily along with the others, and she had no clue what she was in for. When the colourful fireworks started up for the first time, the loud popping sounds immediately made her jump and tense up like a terrified animal. However, once she realised they were harmless she relaxed herself and shot angry glares at anyone who might have been looking or laughing at her. The sky fire was actually pretty neat, and quite mesmerizing...

"Holy shit, this is awesome," She commented, though she still heard snickering and her grin became a scowl. Turning to face the culprit, she gave a poisonous smirk and pounded her fist into her hand in a threatening manner.

[You can't find any of this where she's from. Later on, she's dashing from stall to stall in a fury of unrestrained inquisitiveness, eyes glittering and hands grabbing everything from bizarre weaponry (occasionally forgetting to avoid the sharp end) to multicolored gourds and clothes intended for someone of a significantly different anatomical preference, to alien doohickeys and space widgets she can't identify and generally doesn't hesitate to ask about. This is a holographic device? What's a holograph for? Could you show me how to operate it? Pardon, but what species are you, sir?

She has tact, sometimes, but occasionally (occasionally...) lacks self-restraint - especially in pursuit of discovery. And there is no shortage of things to discover here. You can run into her anywhere across the marketplace, or perhaps she'll run into you.]

[ The nebula is beautiful, or at least it would be to anyone else, trails of shimmering gases with the lights of distant stars flickering between like white candleflames. Irian stands at the window, watching silently, remembering. She can't help but be reminded of the destruction of her people's homeworlds twenty-two years ago, the supernova that set off a chain reaction light years distant. There's nothing left there now but a vista much like this amid the cracked remains of shattered planets.

It's not a train of thought she particularly wants to be following at the moment. Her lips set in a thin line, and she steps back from the window, turning away to continue on. ]

10 idk

[ We hope you weren't planning on drinking a Romulan under the table any time soon. Their infamous ale lends, among other things, quite a tolerance for alcohol. And Irian is, or used to be, something of a connoisseur.

She's not looking for anyone to drink with, sitting at the bar by herself with a glass of something pink-colored and a bit viscous; she hasn't quite made up her mind whether or not she likes it, doesn't even really know what it is, but it's something to try, at least. She isn't going to make it back to her ship and her crew any time very soon, so she may as well do something passingly interesting. Her body language isn't precisely friendly, but she's not giving off stay-away-from-me vibes either. ]

#2: Explosions underground

[Once the aliens start attacking Garnet wastes no time getting to work. Fighting and beating up monsters are her kind of deal. Keeping her reserved demeanor she summoned her gem weapons: two big fists enveloping her hands. Her first priority is keeping the victims safe.

She throws a punch at the first attacking alien she sets her sights on. As she does, she shouts at any stragglers behind.]

Get moving, now!

#7: Explosions in the past!

[Even relaxing Garnet looks...well, quiet, collected. On the observation decks she's observing one of the collapsed star systems turning into glittering dust, one that might one day give birth to new life.

It reminds her of the several collapsed and vanished remains of the Gem temples, once proud constructs that have vanished into thin air. The thought doesn't make her sad...just a small reminder of a time long gone. That was the way things are.

She looks for a long time, holding her self in a half-meditative state. Someone might come along and try to break that meditation...]
