Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

Lal'c Melk Mal - Diebuster

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-14 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
1:
[ As the klaxons sound signalling the coming of the attack, Lar'c puts her hand to her forehead to lift off the small, white object -- and then pauses to curse, hot and under her breath. She's sure the administrators of the Confederation fleet would make good on their threat to ground her if another civilian filed a report of a gigantic robot in a area like this shopping center during an external emergency. And going down the main corridors would be a slow slog of pushing her way past every single concerned or panicked civilian. No, she needs to be in Diex-Newf as soon as she can manage it, and that means avoiding the normal routes down to the hanger.

Lar'c slips to the side of the corridor, out of the way of crowd to scan the layout. A small corridor sign catches her eye: it bears a symbol for an maintenance hatch and she smiles to herself grimly before pushing off from the wall towards the door. She's trying not to hit anyone or be hit, but she's not so much paying attention as she is weaving through the crowd on instinct and force of her glare.
]

Coming through!

7:
[ Lar'c is taking a moment to herself in one of the observation areas, curled up on a bench with her jacket around her shoulders to watch the remains of the stars streaming past the fingertips of the hand she's pressed against the window. She's staring, blinking very slowly as she traces the patterns of the trailing stars beneath her hands. Given her occupied air, it's quite possible Lar'c has forgotten that she's in a public room where someone could come by and see her.

But the bench has quite a lot of room left, given she's so small, and it is a prime viewing spot: maybe company would not go entirely amiss.

[Sleeping and Tron have decided to hate each other again, but this time his restless walk brings him by the observation area and he almost has to stop. He's not sure what he's looking at, since it certainly can't be the colors of Encom 511 coming online after a long shut-down, but it's arresting just the same.

Since he's not he only one staring out the window, he sidles closer. If he says hello and is rebuffed, he won't have to talk anymore.]

Greetings.
starlarking: (We have no sense of humor at the FBI.)

excellent choice. please wait while we load up your encounter.

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ natural destruction as art has no right being this spectacular. lal'c has been a space mech pilot for several years, and she's rarely seen anything like it herself.

after a pause in which she processes her awareness of someone else coming to sit down and the pros and cons of talking to her fellow observer are quickly weighed, she nods.
]

Evening.

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-15 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Tron nods to her gravely, though he can't quite suppress the edge of smiling wonder in it. The User world is a strange, strange place.

He's content to fall into a comfortable silence, so it's several minutes before he speaks again, too curious now to hesitate longer.]

What is that? Out there?

[He's a little wistful. No way it's anything like what he knows, but the similarity is striking.]
starlarking: (Sounds like an STD.)

Re: \o/

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ that edge of whimsy tugs, a bit, at her heart. she resolutely doesn't think of what Nono'd be asking right now, and instead turns so that she's looking at him, though not straight in the eye.]

We're going through a supernova remanent right now. The remains of a star that exploded and formed a nebula.
ja307020: (bsoding)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-15 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyes go wide at that, and he looks at her in shock. He's gotten the very basics about space by now, but...]

Stars do that?
starlarking: (I certainly hope he got both eyes.)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-15 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ nodding back, she traces a unsteady spiral with her left hand that is going faster and faster around her right hand.

the following explanation begins to veer into GUNBUSTER PHYSICS: viewer discretion is advised.
]

Sometimes, the reaction in a star that's causing the light and energy that we see starts to unbalance itself, which destabilizes everything, so things start to expand and contract really rapidly. Or if the space around the star gets too disturbed, then it can start to break itself down.
ja307020: (side-eyeing)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He frowns, eyeing the filaments of color and light with a bit more trepidation.]

Is it that safe to cross, then?
starlarking: (I'll arrest his ass TOO.)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ shrug. she brings her hands together in a soft clap, letting them fall in front of her. ]

This star is already dead, and we're flying through the remains of the reaction. But it's the kind of thing that starships have shielding and deflectors for, so we can watch without any problems. Traveling through other systems should be fine too, under normal circumstances, from what I understand of the fleet's drives.
ja307020: (snooping)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-16 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[He hums thoughtfully.]

Strange that something dead is beautiful.

[He frowns a little. It was probably too much to hope for something familiar here, after all.]

It looks like the system did, when it was fully powered.. Network ports, colors in the sky again. Doesn't seem fair that this is the opposite.
starlarking: (You got some city miles on you.)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ pauses, tilting her head.]

Yeah. . . was the Internet really popular where you came from, or something?
ja307020: (identifying)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-17 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
The Internet?

[Cue blank look.]

The system.. is where I'm from. I'm not from this world originally.

[That's real clear, Tron.]
starlarking: (I certainly hope he got both eyes.)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-17 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[if it sounds like a duck and walks like a duck, what do you mean it's not a duck? ]

So you come from a place where they call the network something else?
ja307020: (identifying)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-17 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
My last system was not networked.

[Sometimes the duck used to be a simulation of a duck.]

It's... not something most Users believe if I tell them.
starlarking: (Let's agree to disagree!)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-17 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[the next thing you'll tell me is that people make duck hunting simulators. who in their right mind would do that?

anyway, there's a long slow blink here, as bits of the nomenclature start to fall into place.
]

You were inside a computer?
ja307020: (bitching 2)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-18 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Weeeeeeell...]

Yes.

Whatever brought me here drew me through the portal.

[He sighs, looking just a bit aggravated.]

I don't know how you Users get by.

[No matter how many times she's seen it now, joan hasn't gotten used to the sight of it. She's staring uneasily at the beautiful, unnerving sight of the swirls that come from the stars. It's overwhelming to the extent that it leaves her other senses slow to process.

It takes her a moment to realize there's someone else here, and she looks over with a slight wince. Her voice is soft.]

I didn't realize anyone else was here. [the tone of her voice implies she'd be willing to leave if the young woman wanted privacy despite it being a public room.] ...I haven't gotten used to it yet.
starlarking: (But don't worry: it's only forever.)

Re: 7

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-16 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ there's a momentary pause, as lal'c tilts her head a little, studying the other woman in the room. finally, she speaks, not deliberately inviting, but not driving anyone else off, either. ]

Are you new to the fleet too?

[personal profile] strangestways 2014-01-16 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[joan approaches the window. she's never tried to pretend like she's always been in this fleet, because she can't. she can keep her own story close to her vest, but she could never school her own reactions to things like this, to everything that she's seen since ending up here. this is not new york city, not at all.]

Yes, I'm new too. [her voice is quiet, not pressing at all, but... there.] Was this... common where you were before?
starlarking: (I certainly hope he got both eyes.)

[personal profile] starlarking 2014-01-16 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lal'c comes from a good some thousand years human future, and has lived in space for what is probably like half of her years. Interstellar travel is new to her, yet this view reminds her of home so much more then anything else she's encountered so far.]

This is a bit far from where I'm used to, I'm afraid. I'm used to piloting through Earth's solar system.

[personal profile] strangestways 2014-01-17 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Joan turns toward her at the mention of Earth.] It's solar system. [Her tone is soft, amazed.] I'm from Earth, but... we made it to our own Moon and that was about it. [There was talk of someone being able to walk on the surface of Mars in maybe 20 years.] How long have you been a pilot?
