Test Drive Meme

Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

[Well, that was reassuring, at least! Nagate did his best to smile back.]

Yeah, a little bit. We had to be careful of them back on the Cydonia. But that was mostly because of old, outdated equipment.

You think that's what happened here?

On a research station like this one, it's the most likely explanation for a fire.

[Geordi reached out for the panel again, only to be forced to draw back when he found it still too hot to handle.]

I'm just not sure it explains the extent of this one.
nagate: (Nagate: hey!)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the damage is pretty bad... but I guess something they were storing could have caught fire and helped it spread.

[He hesitated for a moment, then reached out for the panel.]

Here, let me get that for you.

[Nagate yanked open the panel, heedless of the subsequent burns to his hands. If there was something fishy going on around here, the least he could do was make himself useful. Besides, it didn't hurt him as much as it would most people. Still -- ]

Ow, that's pretty hot!
blindlygo: (O-kaaay)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yyyyyyeah.

[Geordi's attention is fully on Nagate now. Helpful or not, Nagate just made a bit of a dumb move in Geordi's book. Even without being able to see the heat signature of the paneling, most people don't keep holding onto something burning them.]

You should probably get that looked at.
nagate: (Nagate: huh?)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's okay.

[He held up his hands, which were already starting to regenerate. Go go questionable genetic engineering practices]

I heal pretty fast, and it doesn't hurt much! Besides, you wanted to take a look, right?
blindlygo: (what the...)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Up go Geordi's eyebrows. That's unusual. Not impossible, but Nagate has definitely made a more lasting impression now.

Still, it's not the most polite 'getting to know you' question, so Geordi brushes it off with a shrug. He did want to get a look at the components of the console, that was definitely true. So he leans back toward the console, taking a look at the various wires and circuits arrayed inside.]

Phew, this is a mess.
nagate: (Nagate: !)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Nagate was just as happy to leave explanations for later -- it wasn't like he had many answers. He contented himself with looking over Geordi's shoulder, curious.

His gaze caught on part of the charred circuitry innards: a small section of metal that didn't quite match the layout of the rest of the circuits.]

Hey, what's that thing?
blindlygo: (Things that might go boom)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Finding the spot Nagate meant took Geordi a few moments longer, but when he singled it out, he leaned forward, studying it intensely, shifting closer to get a better look at it, now barely heeding the hot metal surrounding it himself.]

I have no idea yet.

[He adjusted the side of his VISOR, wholly focused on that little clue being presented to him.]

But if we can figure that out, I'm sure we'll get some answers. The fire might have done something here, but it's better than a melted puddle.
nagate: (Nagate: uh oh)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Nagate was liking this less and less. This had been an accident, right? Not sabotage? Because while he knew it could and did happen, he didn't really like the possibility that someone might have tampered with the system here -- maybe even caused the fire.]

Yeah, I guess you're right. I just hope that this really was an accident. Do you know what they're researching here?
blindlygo: (oh yeah?)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't get time to ask, with the fire.

[What Geordi wouldn't give to have a nice, familiar tricorder right now. Instead, he reaches for the Confederacy-style omnicorder, pushing buttons as he gets the settings adjusted for what he wants to do.

That done, he holds the device toward Nagate.]

Can you reach in there and get some readings of it on this?
nagate: (Nagate: huh?)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nagate looked a little puzzled; forensic investigation wasn't really his strong point. But he took the omnicorder anyway, reaching into the space to take a scan.]

Hmm... I don't know if this is normal, but I'm getting some low-level tachyon readings. It doesn't look like it's coming from in here, though. Maybe it's some kind of residue?
blindlygo: (Are you sure about this?)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Tachyon readings?

[Geordi leans over to look at the screen now. By this point, there's a definite frown on his face.]

It might be that there's a natural concentration in this area, but in my experience, tachyons are produced by cloaking technology. We could find out using the ship's sensors or the station's. [In the meantime, it feels like they're opening up a can of worms.] What about that metal? For a circuit like this, we should be seeing things like copper and platinum.
nagate: (Nagate: hmm)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm picking up both of those. Plus some aluminum and palladium, gold...

But aren't those all the kind of stuff you'd expect to find in a console like this?

[Nagate handed Geordi back the omnicorder; maybe he'd be able to make more sense of the readings.]

We never had anything like cloaking technology back on the Cydonia. It sounds like it would've been really useful, though.
blindlygo: (Default)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, but now that we know that, we're sure that it isn't because of some foreign element in the system, so we start investigating other possible causes, like the configuration of the circuit.

[Geordi starts looking over the omnicorder again, nodding at the readings. Exactly the kind of things he's expecting to find. As he examines them, he goes back to the topic of cloaking technology.]

Starfleet doesn't have that technology, either, but we've run into some who do, like the Romulans.
nagate: (Nagate: assessing)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least his own ship wasn't as far behind as he'd thought!]

Oh, I see. So in other words, a cloaking device isn't the kind of thing that you'd expect to find lying around a research station, right?

Could it be used to hide something small... a device or a person? Or it it mostly for ships?
blindlygo: (O-kaaay)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in my experience. Of course, I don't exactly have a Confederation security clearance. [Who knows, maybe it's standard procedure around here. But to him, it seems an awfully big power drain for a small outpost like this.]

The technology's been refined over the years, but I've only ever seen it used to cloak ships. There are holograms that could be used to disguise things, but I haven't seen any sign of a holodeck since I got here, and a holodeck doesn't emit tachyons, either.

We've got a real mystery on our hands here.

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nagate crossed his arms.]

Hmm. Okay, then how about this? I think there are still a couple of eyewitnesses in the area. Why don't I go and ask around, find out if they've seen anything unusual? I can meet you back here.
blindlygo: (Default)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds good to me. I'll keep investigating here while you do that. I should have a proper analysis by the time you're done with that.

[He's already turned halfway toward the panel again, omnicorder at the ready.]
