Test Drive Meme

Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

[Well, the general bulk and the blue fur are maybe a little intimidating, but you wouldn't know it from the way Geordi keeps waving Kimahri closer. (It helps that his VISOR hides his eyes).

He gestures to the back of the console, where there's an access panel.]

I'll need to get in here, to check how much of the station's systems are working, but it looks like the fire managed to weld this thing shut. Think you could give me a hand?

[He hunches over and takes a good look at the panel in question, before putting a hand to Geordi's shoulder to guide him aside; though if he doesn't get the message he may end up being pushed aside instead after a few seconds. Leaning closer to the console, he braces one hand against it and, using the other, slips his claws into a small opening where the panel is welded shut.

With enough force, the panel starts to dislodge and after several seconds extra of effort, so too does the whole panel come loose from the console. If the metal's still hot in any way, he doesn't seem all that bothered by it, instead simply stepping back, discarding the panel to the floor and turning his gaze to Geordi, nodding towards the machinery.

All yours.

[Geordi is guided aside easily, though he stays close enough to watch what Kimahri does. He's no Data, or Worf, with special strength. It's the reason he asked for the help in the first place. Still, the ease with which it's removed earns a low whistle from him.]

Well, you just made my job ten times easier. Thanks! I'm Geordi, by the way.

[Surely that stolid silence can be interrupted at least for an introduction.]

[It probably seems like he almost isn't going to respond, considering he stays quiet but...Geordi seems friendly enough, and considering his lack of tech knowledge he could use knowing someone who knows this stuff.]

Kimahri. You are good with machines?
blindlygo: (I got this)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Geordi's response starts with a chuckle, as he pulls the omnicorder off his belt and starts sweeping it over the interior of the cavity.]

You could say that. I've been an engineer on a starship for years.

Have Machina back home. Nothing as advanced as this.

[He watches closely, as if hoping he can pick something up from just watching.]

Much to take in.
blindlygo: (O-kaaay)

[There isn't much to pick up at the moment, since Geordi's just running the tricorder along everything, occasionally lingering, though he holds it in a way that will let Kimahri peek at the figures over Geordi's shoulder.]

Whoo, yeah, I bet. Hundreds of years of technological advancement in a few weeks is a lot to learn.

[Another bout of silence, mainly due to the fact he's trying to see what he can figure out from just observing and...

no, nope. This isn't working. He gestures towards the device in Geordi's hand.
]

What is this?
blindlygo: (Things that might go boom)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-15 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
This? It's a triiiii- [Wrong word. He really needs to stop mixing them up.]

An omnicorder. You can use it for a lot of different things. For example, right now, I'm using it to look at what this stuff is made of, and how the fire damaged it.

[He's actually really impressed.

BLINDED BY SCIENCE levels of wow.
]

Can you show me?
blindlygo: (Default)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Sure.

[He takes a step back and holds the omnicorder directly between them, pointing to each part of the device as he explains.]

Circuits like the one I was just looking at use a lot of conductive metals, so the readings I get should reflect that, and they do. There's a copper, gold, platinum, alluminum... pretty much what I expected.

Now, if I wanted to take readings of something else- like the smoke in the air, for example. What I have to do is adjust the tricorder settings, using these controls here. I can look for the presence of gasses, or other particles in the air, and that information would show up on the screen.

[He'd imagine that kind of thing would be useful - maybe not to him, no. His people were never much for technology, even if Kimahri has a knack for figuring them out in a relatively short amount of time. The perks of being well traveled back home.

But he's still fascinated.
]

Very useful.

[A nod.]

How bad is damage? [Their friend the console over there, that is.]
blindlygo: (x-ray vision)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-16 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Very useful. It's no medical scanner, but it can serve as one in a pinch, and plenty of other things too.

[But before he can get too into explaining about omnicorders, his focus is brought back t talking about the controls he's looking over.]

Pretty bad. There's a lot of fire damage, of course, but it looks like something happened here even before that.
