Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

[ 3. ]
[While she'd managed to overhear from a number of others that there was some sort of huge event scheduled for today, Mirys had no real interest in attending. Being out in public was something she'd grown to despise—and even consider a threat to her own safety—thanks to everything that had happened prior to her being brought aboard the Teuberg, and as such, she largely kept to herself, going only where she needed to, when she needed to. This, however, didn't stop her from sparing some small amount of time to spend by herself—or she believed herself alone, at least—watching the shower of colorful explosions from elsewhere in the city.]

Know how to put on a good show, don't they?

[Jason had been doing a bit of running, since quite a few of the city's citizens were either watching the show in the Colosseum or from their rooms. He'd had the roads mostly to himself as a result, and it just seemed like a good idea to stay in shape.

He'd caught sight of Mirys watching the fireworks by herself and decided to take a break. Maybe she'd want someone to talk to, since she didn't seem to be there with friends.
]

I tried to get in, but they'd already sold out the tickets before I even got in line.
fonewearl: (uncertain)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[It wasn't the first time and it definitely wouldn't be the last time that Mirys had to stop herself before she potentially overreacted to merely being approached; what would have been a jump and quickly turning was instead an obvious flinch with some hesitation to follow, suggesting that she wasn't expecting company.

She glanced back over her shoulder, turning a bit more to at least partially face Jason as he approached.]

I guess they do. [She tried to sound indifferent, but instead came off as almost pleasant, yet wistful.] I'm not exactly one for huge public things, but it's been awhile since I've had a chance to see something like this.
kingtyrantranger: (Default)

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-14 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[He'd have to be blind not to notice that flinch. He was on the verge of apologizing and leaving when she turned to speak to him.

Taking that as encouragement, he moved closer, placing his hands on the railings. He made sure to give her plenty of room, though, and not just because he stank of sweat.
]

I'd rather be hanging out with my friends than in a huge crowd, but I kind of wanted to see what these Confederacy guys were like when they got excited. It looks like I'm missing an awesome show. [He turned his head to flash a smile at her.] I'm Jason, by the way. I think I recognize you from the briefing after we all woke up?

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-14 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[With being who knows how far away from the Pioneer-2 or the planet Ragol, Mirys knew that there was no real harm to be had from letting people know who she is; nobody here knew her, and this was as good a chance as any to get herself a fresh start on everything. Even so, it still took her a moment or two to beat back that ingrained feeling that even so much as identifying herself was a bad idea.]

Mirys. [The Newman girl shrugged somewhat casually when the briefing was mentioned.] Maybe. I didn't do a whole lot of looking around back there, myself. [She had mostly just listened to what they were being told, without paying attention to much else at the time.]

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-14 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Ooh. Probably a bad thing to mention, he noted mentally. Not everyone had been in their best condition during that meeting.]

Sorry. Nice to meet you, though. [He drummed his fingers on the rail, trying to think of something to say before the conversation died out. Then again, she might like to be alone. He didn't know for sure, but hopefully she wouldn't get angry if he kept talking.]

Any idea what you're going to do here? Before they send us home, that is.
fonewearl: (questioning)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-14 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Did she like to be alone? Yes and no. Yes, she'd gotten accustomed to it and generally felt safer when by herself, as backwards as that might sound. No, she in at least some ways actually missed the times where she didn't have to assume everyone was some kind of threat. Good luck getting her to admit the latter, though.]

Right now? Don't know. I'm not sure how well these guys would take to an independent Force running around their ships. [The term "Force" is given a bit of emphasis to suggest that it's some sort of classification.] If it turns out they don't like independents, then I guess the next best option would be looking at going into the militia.

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-14 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a line of thought that Jason would never understand, even if he was privy to it. He's too used to thinking in terms of potential friendships, not worrying about being stabbed in the back.]

I couldn't really say. I'm not used to dealing with any kind of military, I'm just a high school student. [A small lie, of course, but one of necessity. He let out a long sigh and hunched his shoulders a bit.] They say I'm pretty much legally an adult here, though. Or at least old enough to choose between schooling and work. But I don't know, I'm not that great a student in my own time and this is centuries into the future for me.

[He straightens, fingers tightening on the rails.]

I do know one thing, though. I definitely want to help people wherever I can. I'll probably end up joining the militia or the military. [There's a bit of a pause, then a laugh.] Sorry, I didn't mean to change the subject to me.
fonewearl: (hurt)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-14 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[So he was already considering his options as well, then.]

It's fine. I'm not exactly comfortable with talking about myself too much, anyway. [By now, she's turned herself all the way around and is leaning backward onto those same rails. Then, predicting a "why not" of some kind:] For personal reasons, by the way.

Got any backup plans of your own, there? [You know, if the military or militia don't work out.]

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-14 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
['Make yourself useful or we throw you out' is a pretty convincing argument.

He nodded as she spoke, muttering a quiet apology to avoid interrupting her train of thought. However, she shifts the topic of conversation back to him, making Jason feel a little awkward for not being clearer. Still, he shrugs.
]

I'm not really sure. I mean, I could try school, but I'd need to take some remedial classes or something. These guys are too smart for me. I'm good at sports, but not enough to go pro. [At least he's honest with himself.] Back home, I wanted to run a dojo. I even taught some martial arts classes at the juice bar, Ernie was cool enough to let me do it, but I don't know if there's really a demand for that kind of thing here.

[He shuffled around to lean against the rail, same as she was.]

I just don't know. Back home, I'd have about two or three more years of school, but at least I knew what they were teaching. [And he had Billy and Trini to help explain the things he didn't get. Man, he hoped that they were okay, wherever they were.]
fonewearl: (calm)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-15 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
There's probably no harm in at least asking about it. [Teaching something that could be used for self-defense could easily be considered useful, but yes, there is the question of how much interest or demand there would be.] That way you'd know if it's an option or not.

I don't have much left back home, myself. I was actually on my way out to look for a new place when everything happened and we all wound up here. [Not a lie, yet not the whole truth either. Either way, finding herself here might just prove to be a strangely convenient coincidence and give her the start she's looking for.]
kingtyrantranger: (Default)

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-15 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're right. Maybe some people would be interested anyway. [He brightened up a little, at least. No point in defeating himself before he even tried, after all.] If there's already someone doing it, they might not mind some help.

Yeah, I was with my friends when I woke up here.[He fell silent for a moment, brows bunching together with worry, and tossed a look towards the hospital he'd woken up in.] They didn't let me look for them. I hope they're all okay. [Or just back home.]
fonewearl: (distant)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-15 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[They wouldn't let him look to see if his friends were there? That didn't exactly sound good to her. Maybe the condition they were left in after everything had happened was something serious and the hospital workers didn't want any sort of disturbances while trying to deal with those who hadn't woken just yet.]

They might just need some time to be sure they're going to be fine. [The idea that they might not have been brought with him doesn't occur to her, considering he said he was with them at the time.

She then glances back out toward the fireworks show still going on in the distance. How long was it planned to run, again?]

Give it a couple days, then check with them again, maybe? I'm not really sure what's considered appropriate for this kind of situation since I've never really dealt with people I know actually being hospitalized. [Knowing how to use Resta, Anti, and Reverser largely cut down on any major medical situations, after all.]
kingtyrantranger: (Default)

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2014-01-15 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
They said something about possibly disturbing the other patients. I asked how many people were there and... [He grimaces.] Apparently it's not just people like us in there. A lot of people on that ship that brought us here were really hurt as well.

[A lot being several hundred. The accident was really more of a disaster. He could understand why they didn't want him annoying anyone, but it still burned at him.]

I know some people who broke some bones every now and then, but nothing on this level. You're probably right. I mean, this is the future. They've got all kinds of medical advancements, don't they? Everyone should be fine. [It's more like he's trying to convince himself. And, actually, it was working pretty well. The power of positive thinking was a wonderful thing.]
fonewearl: (hurt)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-15 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
["A lot" could mean just about anything. It could mean fifteen, it could mean five hundred, or even five thousand. If it's all as huge of an incident as it sounds...] It's probably better to stay out of the way and wait, then.

[Now turning away from the fireworks and looking toward the hospital herself:] And yeah, I'd think everything should turn out fine.

Jinto's out by himself for the moment too, him and Lafiel being on different shifts. Full of festival food, he sleepily ambles back as the last of the fireworks die out, leaving bright trails along the insides of his eyelids.

He spies someone he knows on the way and puts on a smile. He remembers the first time he met Mirys, how he tried to hail her in Baronh.

"Hello, Ms Hargrave. Did you enjoy the fireworks?"

They'd spoken briefly on their first meeting, but not without some small degree of awkwardness as he'd first called out to her in a language she didn't understand. It proved to be a simple mistake, as she was then informed that she looked quite a bit like some of the people back where he had come from. They had then conversed for at least a short time before she felt the need to excuse herself and return to what she had been doing at the time.

Now, however, she wasn't busy, and arguably feeling more-sociable than before. How much more was a good question, one that would answer itself soon enough.

"I wasn't at the Colosseum," she responds as he approaches, "huge public events aren't really my sort of thing. The show looked better from out here, anyway."

"Well it looks like you've found a good spot. Mind if I take a seat too?"

Jinto liked the little Fonewearl. She reminded him of himself when he first entered Abh school, shy and stumbling. Anyway he was tired after walking around all day, trying to get over not being here with Lafiel.

Shy and stumbling was...an interesting way of putting it. Of course, if he actually said as much, she would have made a face and started denying it outright: she wasn't shy, she just didn't like being around people too much.

Don't tell her that it means the same thing.

Giving the request some slight consideration, she figures it couldn't hurt. Turning to lean back against the nearby railing, she gives an answer; "Eh, I don't see any problem with it."
