Well, she looked like she'd been on the wrong end of a firefight, no doubt there. All the more reason to go slow, really. Humans, he was learning, didn't have the same enthusiasm for a good fight.

"My name's Axl. What's yours? I can show you around if you want. I know the Teuberg is kind of crazy big."

Nor could they be repaired as easily.

"I am Therru...It is as large as an island. I have never seen a ship like it."

She looks curiously at the scar that covers his nose. She's learned from her younger days and is too tactful to ask about it outright. But it makes her decide that, alright, she'll follow him, though she still looks ready to bolt at any moment.

"Yeah, me either. Space colonies, yeah, but nothing this big moving before," Axl said. "Most of the people here are pretty ok."

Some of the medical types might even be able to do something about that scarring.. but probably not a good idea to mention it right now. He could introduce Therru to Pinoko first! Then Pinoko could talk her into it.

"You wanna go anywhere particular? I know most of the civilian parts of the ship pretty well. I can take you by where everyone-- or at least the newcomers like us-- are living."

"I...would like to go perhaps to where I can see where we are." She still has the idea of space being like the ocean of Earthsea, where land can usually be sighted.

Then her stomach growls. Maybe the first place shouldn't be the observation deck after all.

Axl hummed, taking in both sounds, then snapped his fingers. "C'mon. I know a good spot."

The observation deck wasn't the only place to get a good look at the stars, and there was often a food cart or three in the spot he was thinking of, a junction between the city and the ship proper where the crew and minor functionaries took lunch.

"This way!"

Looking a little embarrassed to go along with her skittishness, Therru nodded and followed. She had no coin to pay for anything but perhaps someone might leave food unattended or might give her some in exchange for chorework.

All that she forgot when she got there though. The stars seemed so near, as if she could fall into them and go tumbling off into the void. She looked seasick but pressed her unburnt hand to the glass.

Newcomers got money.. and if Therru needed help working the credit system, well, Axl would just help her out with it later. He was still a bit flush for credits, mostly thanks to the fact he didn't need nearly as much junk as humans seemed to.

The stars, though...

He joined her at the window, a couple steps to the side so that he wouldn't be able to tell too easily if she was crying. Sometimes space did funny things to people that they didn't like sharing.

"Space is pretty awesome," he said after a few long moments. Everything always felt more peaceful out here, anyway.

Therru did not understand credit cards yet. She barely understood that they were sailing in the void between worlds. But she was not crying and she would learn soon enough. In fact something inside her tugged at her to step into it, not that she could through the foot thick glasstic. That was, she'd figure out later, her dragon nature reasserting itself.

"It is disorienting...but not unpleasant."

"About time somebody else appreciated space," Axl said, just a little teasingly. "So.. picnic under the stars? I think the guy with the churros is here somewhere."

Therru reluctantly tore herself away from it. "You are kind, sir. I will try a 'churro' then." Oh brave new world that has such rolled meat in it! She heads for the Mexican food truck.

Well, the truck had more to it than just delicious deep-fried sugar snacks, even if that was the main draw in Axl's world.

"Well.. Being a dick isn't very cool," Axl said, a little flustered at the compliment. He covered it by definitely ordering more churros than was probably healthy, at least for a normal person.
