Test Drive Meme

Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

"Maybe they have a backup somewhere? Its not a biological data core, so it probably wasn't that hard to keep weekly or daily backups somewhere, right?"

She starts looking over the datafeeds, "I mean I wouldn't let any of the pilots that came back from maneuvers without putting their flight data into the backups."
nagate: (Nagate: unknown life signs)

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... right.

[Okay, a little uncomfortable, but Nagate had been through way worse, and he didn't want to be impolite to this extremely friendly fellow. After a moment, though, he tugged his hand back and tried not to rub at it to get rid of the creepy feeling.]

S-So you're an Admiral, right? Sounds like a tough job.

a shepard because shepherded and i couldn't help myself

[personal profile] notacaptain 2014-01-14 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[She'd been giving orders to a few aimlessly wandering people, but she responds to his request rather quickly. Murmuring a few more words to the couple she waved them on their way before giving Geordi her undivided attention.]

There another situation?

[Her response is prompt as she heads over to see what's caught his attention. Leaning down, she settles in to get a good look at whatever seems to be the problem. Sure she's just a soldier, but she's picked up a thing or two about electronics along the way.]

I'm warning you now, I'm only a few steps above punch it until it works.
blindlygo: (Guinan makes too much sense)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but it's a pretty disturbing one for a research station, especially a backwater like this one.

[Geordi rocks back on his heels, contemplating the console.] Honestly, I'm open to theories.
blindlygo: (Things that might go boom)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't hurt to check," Geordi says, glancing around for any mostly intact stations in the nearby area. The smoke managed to get everywhere, but there seem to be a few that didn't get any damage beyond that. "But without ships coming and going, there's a good chance that most of this place's research was contained only within the station. Especially if they wanted to keep it discrete."
17thangel: (Irrittated)

[personal profile] 17thangel 2014-01-14 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She lets out an exasperated sigh and starts looking to see if the parts are hot swapable.

"Yeah, but you keep backups somewhere secure, that way if your main core takes a hit you have something to replace it with. I mean redundancy is a thing, right?"
blindlygo: (oh yeah?)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Punching it has just as much chance of working as anything I can do, in this state.

[Barely more than a heap of melted slag, he means. The problem, however, exists in a hunk of melted circuits and wires. Cautious of the heat still radiating from the inside of the console, Geordi leans forward to trace out a pathway of connections.]

If I'm any judge, this is what caused the fire. But these wires shouldn't be connected in this way at all.

[Shepard glances down at her uniform for a moment, her lips twisting into a bemused sort of smile. Grease and syrup are probably the least offensive thing to get on any one of her outfits, so it's not like she actually minds.]

Don't think anything about it, but be more careful. This port seems alright, but you never know if something's going to go south.

[Her lecture is hardly out of her mouth before her stomach gives an audible gurgle. Curse her metabolism! Even with as seldomly as she uses her biotics, the affect on her eating habits are still readily apparent.]

You sure those things are safe for humans?

Eve (Code Nemesis) | Elsword

[personal profile] spearsurfing 2014-01-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[3: Explosions over the city!]
[Eve was watching the fireworks alongside everyone else... but the more she watched, the more she thought about how she could do so much better.

So for the last few minutes, she's been working off to the side with some hastily "sketched" blueprints (using convenient holoscreens, which are floating all around her now), her twin drones working away on some smaller screens to assist. Except, well, if you take a peek and look at it... that looks more like some kind of giant rocket launcher than a fireworks launcher...

Good thing she can't build it right now! ... Right?]

[10: Explosions in your mind!]

Not sure how much of it's even worth salvaging.

[The circuitry is completely unfamiliar to her, but she tries to follow what he's saying anyway. If what he's saying is correct there's only one conclusion she can reach.]

You think someone sabotaged this console? Was there anything important kept on it? If someone was after data the easiest way to hide tampering with something like this is to get rid of it.

[Not that she'd know anything about that of course.]
fonewearl: (hurt)

[personal profile] fonewearl 2014-01-14 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[So he was already considering his options as well, then.]

It's fine. I'm not exactly comfortable with talking about myself too much, anyway. [By now, she's turned herself all the way around and is leaning backward onto those same rails. Then, predicting a "why not" of some kind:] For personal reasons, by the way.

Got any backup plans of your own, there? [You know, if the military or militia don't work out.]
blindlygo: (I got this)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Obi-Wan isn't the only one watching the nebula as they pass through, though he may be the only one thinking of it in the way he is. Geordi, standing nearby on the bridge, isn't thinking about the life cycle of a star, but rather the collection of elements present.

He doesn't step closer to Obi-Wan, but with the two of them being the only one staring at the nebula, instead of a screen covered in statistics, there's little question who the comment he makes is meant for.]

It never gets old, seeing these up close.

Agent 779/Splicer | Starcraft OC

[personal profile] expendable_mind 2014-01-14 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[[Returning from #1]]

"Another mission, another flurry of marks under my belt. All's in a day's work huh guys?" With a smirk, Splicer turned up the radio and boosted off into the hangar, landing his baby gently before grabbing his gear and getting out of his custom Wraith.

He looked around to see if anyone else had come back from the dogfight already or if they had gone to the planet to search for straglers or help some of the locals. Him? He had no aspirations to do either of those. He followed protocol, did his thing and was now back at home base awaiting the next set of orders while he enjoyed him a nice well earned reward.

Popping the cap off his bottle, Splicer took a nice log swig before popping a cigarette unto his lips and lighting it with the tip of his fingers.

"Feels good to be back under command. Can't think straight on my own," he joked, a small chuckle as he tok a puff from the cancer stick.

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least his own ship wasn't as far behind as he'd thought!]

Oh, I see. So in other words, a cloaking device isn't the kind of thing that you'd expect to find lying around a research station, right?

Could it be used to hide something small... a device or a person? Or it it mostly for ships?
notacaptain: (shep 12)

[personal profile] notacaptain 2014-01-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Easy way to feel small isn't it?

[Shepard's eyes are fixed on the swirls of space rather intently. As a spacer, someone who grew up in space, it's easy to think she'd take this sort of stuff for granted. She never has though and after certain events it's likely that she never will.]

Sometimes I think we should suit up people who get too big for their britches and let them drift out there for while. A feeling like that's a quick reminder about how small everyone is in the big picture.

Tsumugi landed neatly in the hangar beside Splicer's Wraith, looking for all the world like an extremely oversized, armored young woman in long skirts touching down on the metal floor. She was the height of a humanoid mecha, well over 60 feet.

She clasped her hands together in front of her skirt, clearly happy to be back. "Yes! Thank you for all your hard work, Mr. Splicer. I'm so pleased that you weren't hurt in the battle!"

blindlygo: (what the...)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Geordi nods.] The other options are that someone's really incompetent at their job, or that things melted into different positions during the fire, but they're both equally unlikely.

[He laces his fingers together in front of him as he looks it over, evaluating.]

Safe to say this was a pretty important part of work at the station, and not just an interface for a specific sensor array.
expendable_mind: (Stoic)

Hello! ^^;; I didn't know anyone knew me here lol

[personal profile] expendable_mind 2014-01-14 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Zerglings in a handbasket! He'll never get used to that height, even if the imagery is pleasant to an oddball like himself.

"Hurting is part of the job description but it's a boon I'd like to avoid even if I can heal it fast. I'm glad the battle ended with the minimum amount of damage, but I'm sure that was thanks to command's quick thinking and deployment."
blindlygo: (O-kaaay)

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in my experience. Of course, I don't exactly have a Confederation security clearance. [Who knows, maybe it's standard procedure around here. But to him, it seems an awfully big power drain for a small outpost like this.]

The technology's been refined over the years, but I've only ever seen it used to cloak ships. There are holograms that could be used to disguise things, but I haven't seen any sign of a holodeck since I got here, and a holodeck doesn't emit tachyons, either.

We've got a real mystery on our hands here.

[personal profile] blindlygo 2014-01-14 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would assume so, but I'm no expert on Confederation regulations." Starfleet, yes, but Starfleet and this Fleet weren't connected, no matter how many similarities he might notice between the technology.

"The station's still running, so if the consoles don't work, it's not a problem with a lack of power supply," he comments, as he tests out one of the nearby stations.
pinkspaceprincess: (Tsumugi: speaking)

yes it is me, tetra

[personal profile] pinkspaceprincess 2014-01-14 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh my, yes. Although it helps that we're not fighting the gauna. Back on the Cydonia, the survival rate was less than 50%. We lost so many pilots..."

She shook her head. "But we shouldn't be so gloomy! Oh -- I heard that there's going to be a fireworks show later on. Isn't that wonderful? I've never seen fireworks before! I'm sure it will be very beautiful!"

Tsumugi fiddled idly with the material of her skirt, averting her gaze a little. "Mr. Splicer, if you're not doing anything later, would you like to come watch the fireworks show with me?"

[Nagate crossed his arms.]

Hmm. Okay, then how about this? I think there are still a couple of eyewitnesses in the area. Why don't I go and ask around, find out if they've seen anything unusual? I can meet you back here.

[Oh, he has company now! That was sudden.]

Don't you think so, sir? [He is reaching for his purse. Goodbye hydroponic carrots.] I wonder, perhaps if I start gambling and winning immediately, my luck will not allow the device to break!

[It is not like he is looking for an excuse to start gambling at all. He doesn't have a problem! He can stop if he wants, okay?]
nagate: (Nagate: unknown life signs)

Re: Kevin Cecil | Makai Ouji

[personal profile] nagate 2014-01-14 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. I didn't think of that! You should definitely go for it.

[Enabling all the way. Besides, Nagate kind of wanted to see if it would really work.]

[Kevin tilts his head, attempting to visualize the concepts Geordi is trying to convey. It becomes a little easier when he applies the same logic he uses to understand computers in general: everything is books!]

Does that mean all research has been lost?

[But science!]
