Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

[He really is going to laugh at this rate... Self control, give him strength--]

You've done the calculations on every part of this ship, have you? [There is probably at least one blast door, somewhere very deep, that by chance could withstand a smaller ship barreling into it, and that's what he's banking on. He glances at the lion, not unwarily.]

And I bet your cat is an engineer, too, right?
razor_hill_hell: (LOK'TAR OGAR MOTHER!@#$ER!)

[personal profile] razor_hill_hell 2014-01-28 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... dammit, Scratchfever. This is totally revenge for hiding that packet of dried fish from him, isn't it?? Tednug sighs, lowering his hands from his face as soon as he realizes that death isn't going to happen to them right this instant, probably. ]

No, but- look, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to minimize the chances of a horrible, horrible death, and I'm not gonna stand around and tempt fate. 'Cause fate's got a sick sense of humor.

[ Tednug blinks at the question, also glancing over at his cat (who yawns again, not even bothering to glance at the human). ]

What? Scratchfever? Pretty sure he's not allowed to hold a profession, but I am- well, I was an engineer. Sort of. Very briefly. What're you supposed to be, then?
peterpanic: (i'll build a motorcycle for no reason)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-28 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[sort of very briefly. Shiroe smirks, turning away from the window and leaning his shoulders against it. It's like his entire goal is to tempt fate, oops...]

I'm an elite. [here he goes] Studied and trained in advanced engineering, and longer than "briefly." I could program one of those ships in my sleep.

[Which is the ridiculously confident way of saying he's an honor student, but hey, who's counting.]
senseandcecilbility: (perfect)

[personal profile] senseandcecilbility 2014-01-28 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Adults are not particularly trustworthy, are they? Kevin leans on the window, pretending to be momentarily distracted by the astronomical phenomenon. The good thing about this "adult" is that it is easy to see through his lies. Right now, it is clear as day that Shiroe interests him more than whatever is going on thousands of years in the past.]

And cookies for a fair price. I bet it is some sort of nebula celebration.
peterpanic: (have you guys seen my pride)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-28 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hardly. Which is why Shiroe watches him watch the light show outside with mounting curiosity. Cookies and cocoa? What is he, 5?]

What a thing to celebrate. [He looks out the window again, weighing the pros and cons of abandoning his solitary post for... for cookies. Hmm.] This sort of thing isn't so rare.
razor_hill_hell: (I PROMISED I WOULDN'T CRY)

[personal profile] razor_hill_hell 2014-01-28 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Man, Tednug WAS going to warn Shiroe about leaning against the (super-thick, super-safe) glass, but then he goes off on that hoity-toity spiel and the orc finds that he doesn't much care anymore. Because he is honor-bound to return that boast with one of his own! ]

Yeah? Well, I made a .50 caliber rifle by combining two .22 caliber rifles together and slapping in a duck-billed arbeques to fill in the remaining .06, and stuck a radar dish onto my tin-foil exciting undergarment helmet using nothing but scrap! If that's not engineering, I don't know what is!

[ On hindsight, that sounds like the fevered ravings of a madman. But it would probably help even less if Tednug added that this took place in a horrific side pocket of unreality, so he keeps his peace. ]
senseandcecilbility: (doubt)

[personal profile] senseandcecilbility 2014-01-29 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Boys that age are always interested in food, or so experience has taught him. ]

Oh? Do humans watch nebulas all the time nowadays?

[It is true that stars die all the time, but where does the kid come from?]
searchforpeace: ([23] Side by side)

I vaguely remembering liked 08th MS. It's been so long.

[personal profile] searchforpeace 2014-01-29 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"That's a rather short amount of time."

Not that her own didn't have a similar short span. After all, she was only a baby during the One Year War and now everything was falling apart again.
searchforpeace: ([05] We're breaking free)

[personal profile] searchforpeace 2014-01-29 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I would think a lot of people, particularly those with some experience, may not enjoy technology encroaching like that.

[She adds gently, turning the page in her book.]

Unfortunate as that is.
searchforpeace: ([42] Just stay awake)

[personal profile] searchforpeace 2014-01-29 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh well this is a sight. And likewise someone Mineva had yet to run across. She's loathe to interrupt them in the midst of what appears to be studying themselves but she has to ask in something like wonder:]

Isn't that a lot of information to keep up with?
peterpanic: (punched in the face like a nerd)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[He will deny it!! A pause and a strange look, though - do... humans... Well. The casual implication that this man isn't human doesn't make Shiroe less wary. He stares.]

I don't know. The calendar here is different from what I'm used to. [a beat; he is attempting to not be totally defensive] I'm from a place like this, only bigger. A space station.
peterpanic: (have you guys seen my pride)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
[What on earth-- Now, he's not the most well-versed in rifles (not at all honestly), but he's pretty sure that sticking calibers on top of each other does not change the caliber of the overall item. Like, maybe as a joke? But for real??

Flatly:]

I don't think that proves anything except you know how to add.

[He's not even going to touch the exciting undergarment helmet thing, whatever that is.]
razor_hill_hell: (... my inventory is full of insane @@%%)

[personal profile] razor_hill_hell 2014-01-29 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ Huh. That inspired less awe than he hoped it would. ]

Hey now, that proves a LOT of things. Like... uh, resourcefulness, inventiveness, a willingness to take risks... aren't those all important engineering thingamajigs, too?
peterpanic: (look at his stupid haircut)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
[It was the undergarment, truly.]

Not as important as skill. [SCOFF] Do you think cobbling together something that looks sort of like a ship will convince someone to pilot it? Doubtful.

But alright, tell me what your radar... thing is supposed to do.
senseandcecilbility: (so zen)

[personal profile] senseandcecilbility 2014-01-29 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[And yet this perfectly normal human didn't even notice his slip. He does, however, notice the not total defensiveness. With a warm smile, he turns around and starts walking towards the cafeteria. Then he casually pauses to look over his shoulder to check if the boy is following. A space station! And he thought moon travel was a bit too much..]

Dates are shockingly confusing, aren't they? Though I must confess my own confusion is helplessly permanent. Regardless of the exact date, I am afraid that this place will be always very different from England, 1888.

peterpanic: (look at his stupid haircut)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[At first, he isn't going to follow, even though it's plainly obvious he's being invited to do so. He can get snacks whenever he wants, after all. But mentioning the calendar usually prompts people to ask how it's different, and instead- England. Right out of the ancient history books.

Alright, he's following now. His attention is grabbed.]

You're from Terra. [ah-] Earth. No wonder you're going to the celebration!
senseandcecilbility: (Content)

[personal profile] senseandcecilbility 2014-01-29 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Even if the phenomenon only seems grand for those like me, it is still a nifty excuse for cookies, wouldn't you agree?

[It is only natural that the Peter Pan boy would be attracted to "ancient history". Kevin seems very happy to have company.]

Terra, you said? Did they change its name back? How quaint! Latin has always been such a warm language. I have heard they no longer teach it at schools. Ah, a real shame...

[Not to mention that young master is particularly good at Latin. He misses his rehearsals too.]
peterpanic: (smug piece of shit.jpg)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Ancient history man sure is eccentric. Latin is the deadest of the dead languages, from Shiroe's perspective - although, most languages common to Earth are likely long since dramatically changed if not dead themselves. He hums, an ambivalent acknowledgement that, alright, he will have a cookie.]

You'd be surprised what they teach in schools now. It isn't literature by anyone's standards.

[He folds his arms and shrugs one shoulder, like hmph, he is definitely not bothered!!]

I always thought it was called Terra because it's so old and it's where people came from. [He's not... 100% sure on ancient etymology... but it's got that "origin of species" feel, so.]

[ et tu brute also comes to mind. but then again, it's starscream, even brutus had more loyalty.

soundwave doesn't budge. whatever starscream's offer of peace has no meaning here. he sounds like betrayal all over again and that just won't stand. however, they are both resourceful cons in a strange land, no familiar elements to count on. he'll just have to find use for starscream. ]

You mistake my words for an invitation to open dialog. Starscream.

[ CUE WILD WEST MUSIC ]

[personal profile] razor_hill_hell 2014-01-29 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I could do that cobbling thing and make it work. Back home, I mean. Or rather, in a certain place back home that doesn't exist anymore, thank gods.

[ Tednug shakes off his thousand-yard stare. Where were they? Oh. Right. He taps the side of his head proudly, giving the kid a conspiratorial wink. ]

It's everything I need to survive! Stops anyone from tracking me by any means, has at least two types of tracking active, and looks absolutely fabulous to boot. Woven from the finest of metal spoons, tinkered with by my expert touch. Seriously, what more could you want out of a helmet?
senseandcecilbility: (doubt)

[personal profile] senseandcecilbility 2014-01-29 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[They totally ruined it, didn't they? God gives humans a perfectly nice planet and they keep making it uninhabitable and going to the moon and other unreasonably oxygen-deprived places.]

That far away? Oh my... Sir, may I ask what do they teach at schools?

[They arrive at the cafeteria. And it is as busy as expected. Cocoa is on the house, and one can find cookies in more flavors than necessary. Some of them completely mysterious.]
peterpanic: (maybe he's born with it)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[They ruined it in so many ways. AI helped. Ruin it, that is, in Shiroe's opinion.

In the cafeteria Shiroe makes a beeline for a fresh mug of cocoa before he answers, which he does while eyeing an array of cookies thoughtfully. Decisions, decisions.]

How to fit into the role chosen for you. [He glances up, then goes on,] In the good schools, it all filters back to the military. I was in engineering.
peterpanic: (have you guys seen my pride)

[personal profile] peterpanic 2014-01-29 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[If he's expected to be awed again--he might disappoint. He will definitely disappoint, in fact, since the explanation really doesn't do anything for him.]

Spoons? Are you sure you didn't imagine it working?
infomatics: (pic#7295762)

[personal profile] infomatics 2014-01-29 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ he's here. this space rock of appropriate size is here. why not settle in in this universe the old fashion way. it would be encapsulated with these organics. her sarcasm isn't lost to him. he'll just side step that bit and call it as it is. ]

It is an opportunity. The presence of the other organics are inconsequential.

[ a long pointed look at the other organics, futilely working. then back at the smaller one in front of him. gauging her position relative to the others. ]

[Ah, military. After his time in post-nuclear London, he can tell where this is heading.]

...Training the youth to better serve society does not seem like such a bad idea. [says the guy whose role eventually plunged him into a breakdown of biblical proportions.] Do you enjoy engineering?

[Kevin is very conservative in his cookie choice: chocolate and strawberries. Alien food still scares him.]
