Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

Your “carriage” [ air quote ] is in my way. Thought I'd give it a little nudge.

[ It doesn't look like he's even going to acknowledge her attempt at a threat, though he seems to be in good humor now, for whatever reason. ]

I don't like waiting. Might be something more fun to do on the other side of this line.

[ He's “helping”. ]
meddler: (Objection... sorta.)

[personal profile] meddler 2014-01-23 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Right.

[ He says this like it answers none of his questions. ]

Now, before I try and help you, I just need to know a few things. First, you don't happen to be familiar with a planet named "Mondas" or a "Cybus Industries"? Because that might lead to some problems. Actually, it might lead to a lot of problems.

[ a pause ]

Secondly, if you haven't heard of either of these, how did you manage to get your hands on an advanced cybernetic suit of armour, and has it expressed the desire to "merge" with you or "delete" anything?

[ If it were related to the cybermen, that should cover it. ]

[The observation deck is crowded enough someone would need to have a thick skin and awfully pointy elbows to shove their way through...

...or they'd have to cheat, and that's the approach Nimuwiil has chosen. The Doctor would have to look up to see him, 'swimming' through the air as quiet as a ghost. He's a big one, some six meters from head to tail and what must be something like a few hundred kilograms once you count the suit, but when he sets down the only noise is the soft tic-tic-tic of the tips of those tentacles against the flooring.]

You are of what people?

[The giveaway that he's not human isn't the psychic ability—Nimuwiil knows that not all humans are Deaf... it's the different biology. After all, with sonar, he can 'see' through people as easily as he can sense them in the first place.]

[personal profile] heroineintraining 2014-01-23 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh!

[ Catherine is utterly enchanted, looking from the doll to the gentleman. He could have sprouted wings and begun to fly about and she would not have been terribly surprised.

The only thing is she's not sure if she ought to be addressing the doll or the man.
]

I'm not sure how I would describe my whole world, I've only seen a very small bit of it. I was raised in the country. It's very quiet, but lovely.

[personal profile] heroineintraining 2014-01-23 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ She stiffens, glaring up at him. ]

I have never met anyone of your species, but I'm sure none compare to you in manners, sir.
[ She would not, under normal circumstances, have used such an impudent tone, even to someone as disagreeable as this person. However someone who has been a younger sister for her entire life does not know how to react any other way to such insults. ]

I certainly have no intention of repeating our meeting.

You see, normally I'd take a shortcut. But, my ship hasn't been working. Inter-dimensional travel was probably hard on her. Or, there's something else...

[ But never mind that right now. As worrisome as the state of the TARDIS might be, the Doctor is currently looking just as excited. ] Exactly. Given the different universes (universi?), the possibilities are endless. [ and that reminds him... ] What about your species? Judging by your appearance... tropical planet? Amphibious origins? Given your familiarity with humanity, I'd guess... Post-Twenty-Third century. By human standards, of course. But no.. No... different universe, different variables.

[ And then... ]

Right. Regeneration. It's sort of like washing your clothes. Only, there's no clothing involved and it's basically the reorganization of bodily cells when you're on the verge of death. Same man, different face, personality and... well, a lot of different. There's a few different theories on how we ended up with the ability. Some theorised something about self-replicating biogenic molecules [ he might've missed that class ], or an extra strand was added to our DNA, but, it's probably most likely that either of these were helped along by the untempered schism. [ Wait. Explain that. ] That's a schism. In space and time. But never mind that.

Back to regeneration. See, technically I'm only supposed to be allowed twelve regenerations, but circumstances might've changed.

[ and just for good measure... ]

It's not exactly something I want to test. At least not for a while.

[personal profile] heroineintraining 2014-01-23 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ He is possibly the least helpful helper she has ever had the misfortune to meet. Aside from John Thorpe.

And it's the impression of such frustrating behavior that gets her over her fear of the reptilian fellow rather quickly.
]

Sir, I don't know what is at the end of this line, but I assure you there is no call for shoving!

[ Whether startled, revulsed, or simply unamused, most adults react poorly to Emily. This young lady is still enough of a child to be amused by something so simple as a rude, talking doll. ]

Were you happy with that "small bit," or did you want to see more?

[He has little enough use for the Colosseum, truth be told. His interest in sport is limited, and even then, he prefers action to mere observation. Not that he affords himself much opportunity to partake. He's no child anymore, despite his appearance; engaging in play is not something he needs or wants.

[So he's not in the stadium itself when the fireworks start bursting through the air; nonetheless, they capture his attention. With no particular work to attend -- as strange as that feeling is to him, so used to doing the work of at least two people much of the time -- he supposes there's no harm in just stopping on a rooftop to watch for a few moments.

[There's no joy or wonder on his face, just a somewhat distant look. This really isn't the same as watching the fireworks with friends at home, and he doesn't expect it to be.]

[2]
[It's too much to expect things to go smoothly, isn't it? Of course it is. Missions and other operations always need to be run on the expectation that something may go wrong.

[Overgrown beasts burrowing through the underground tunnel? Tch. He's hardly even surprised, honestly. The quarters are tighter than he likes, which limits his options, but let it not be said that Hitsugaya can't handle a fight under such conditions. His blade is out in a blink, expertly slicing through one of the creatures as it makes a move for him. He pays no heed to the blood on his weapon, instead focusing on getting things organized.

[Perhaps oddly for someone who looks so young, his voice is steady and authoritative, as though he's well accustomed to issuing orders.]
Cover the non-combatants. Move them to safer locations when suitable routes open up. And nobody had better be stupid enough to start firing anything down here.

[Who even knows what kind of reckless people are down here with him? Best to have the order out there as a precaution.]

[10]
[Or just make up something on your own. I'm flexible.]

[It's going to take a lot more than good acting to convince Prowl he's doing anything other than looking after his own interests. Regardless, there's a slightly bemused sneer.]

Good. We both know there's one thing that grating mouth of yours is good at, and it's in both of our interests if you continue to use it - under my instruction.

[In a desperate enough situation, Prowl wasn't above forming a temporary alliance with the likes of someone like Starscream. Though whether or not it was actually for mutual benefit was up to him to decide.]
tropenamer: (DO)

( See this? This is Starscream laughing at you, Prowl. )

I thought you were incapable of joking. ( This is the funniest thing he's heard all day, honestly. Nothing like Prowl thinking he's going to actually have any say over what Starscream says or does. ) Your instruction.

( He's proved willing to make alliances of convenience before, but the one thing he wants to make absolutely clear is that he's not accepting anyone's orders ever again. )

If it's a partnership you want, you're going to have to do better than that.

[Prowl isn't laughing back.]

I thought you were smart enough to figure out why listening to my counsel would be best for us both, but I must have overestimated your powers of deduction.

[He's just going to close the distance between them, arms crossed and expression grim as ever.]

This isn't New Iacon, Starscream. We aren't on some remote village full of impulsive NAILs on a knife's edge. This is a fleet of starships. Human starships. With an extensive, labyrinthian set of rules and regulation.

Do you follow?

[personal profile] heroineintraining 2014-01-23 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ She hesitates a moment before answering. Is it too forward to tell a stranger this? He did ask, after all. ]

I wanted to see more. [ It feels almost scandalous to admit it. ] I love my home and my family, but I wanted to see so much more.

[personal profile] heroineintraining 2014-01-23 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Unless they are perfect beasts, I don't see how that could change my opinion in the least.

[ Your manners are weak shit and she is judging you so hard, Starscream. ]

[A beat passes while Nimuwiil considers that. He doesn't really understand the subtleties of Human honorifics yet, and his translator can only do so much... and the professing of gratitude is even stranger to him.]

No thanking is required? It was the correct thing to do.

[The six-meter-long body shifts on the metal tentacles and his head tilts, and Catherine may or may not realize that he's probably trying to get a good look at her. It's hard to tell, with all that armor hiding his actual eyes and whatever sensors or cameras are built into it hidden absurdly well.]
black_swimmer: (Default)

[personal profile] black_swimmer 2014-01-23 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
It is difficult to translate. Your language has many... separations that are not present in Fleetsong.

[The tail flicks thoughtfully, and in a way that's strangely quiet despite all that metal.]

No obligations are necessary?

[He is confused, though it's hard to read in the calmness of the translator-voice. In his mind, such common courtesies are a simple fact of life, no more worth commenting than it would make sense to thank someone for not shooting you today.]

[ Grunt's struggle is neither particularly amusing (Akihiko doesn't laugh- wouldn't really laugh at someone's misfortune,) nor particularly distressing (he's not in any sort of danger,) though the pieces of rock falling are a little worrying- Akihiko sidesteps a particularly large one rolling down the side of the cavern. He sighs, turns towards Grunt but doesn't approach just yet- ]

It's just a lizard, it won't hurt you.

[ Much as he would like to- much as tempting it is, he doesn't relax and cross his arms, because with Grunt acting the way he is, it's entirely possible Akihiko will need to duck out of the way at some point or another. Still, it's not enough to stop him from pointing out- ]

And it's entirely possible that the more you struggle, the tighter it holds on.

[Catherine is not the only one seeking high places in an evening like this. Perched on top of a tree at the Sky Park, Kevin watches the fireworks without really seeing them, for he is too immersed in an imaginary dialogue with his absent young master. Why, it's merely rocket propulsion. Nothing but a vulgar trick. He can almost hear the boy's voice, pretending boredom when, in fact, the sparkle in his childish eyes tells a completely different story. Red is made from strontium or lithium, isn't it? Azure is Cesium. Ah, that has to be Barium. Now, for all that cheap-looking gold one needs to…]

And yet he ordered me to bring him back the following year. I wonder if...

[He abruptly stops his musings when he senses movement under the tree. A young lady! Right in time to witness him talk to himself like lunatic.]

My most sincere apologies, madam! It was not my intention to cause any inconvenience...

[Apologies, he realizes, can be rendered particularly awkward when begged from the top of a tree. A new horrifying thought occurs to him: what if the lady is led to believe that he climbed the tree with some nefarious purpose?]

I-I was not spying or stalking, I swear!

That depends entirely on how you define "adapting."

[she says it like a joke, but it's a terribly familiar situation, and she isn't adapting so much as continuing the years-long thread of helping where needed and looking for her ticket home.]

The organization I'm from is dedicated to exploration, and my ship's been stranded decades from home. It's the details of the fleet where differences start cropping up.

Life happens sure, but that's what there's a chain of command.

[It takes her a moment to answer as she pauses to think things over for a moment.]

I had a ship...and a crew.

[Had being the key word since she's fairly certain the only reason she wasn't dead for a second time was because she got pulled here instead.]

Guns don't mean a damn thing if you can't use them right.

[Shepard doesn't wait for an answer, taking his response as a tacit 'yes'. So she goes on the move, charging into the fray with reckless abandon. Her armor is lighter than his probably, but that fact doesn't bother her in the least. Stupid critters won't know what hit them, her shotgun blasts are fast and for the most part accurate. She's too experienced to screw something like this up....typically.]
notacaptain: (shep 03)

[personal profile] notacaptain 2014-01-23 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Most things don't seem like dissertation material, doesn't stop people from trying.

[Shepard has to snort at that, her amusement easing the earlier twinge of fear, denial, or whatever the hell it was.]

Explains some of the duty reports I've read anyway. You'd think they were getting bonus points for creativity or something.
