Test Drive Meme

Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

It's the truth. I don't recall putting up a help wanted so you're clearly employed somewhere else.

[How about no, because he doesn't need someone hovering over him.]

If you're anything like Alan you'd probably have locked me up in a room within eight months of dealing with me when I was younger.

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-20 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You get in enough trouble for ten.

[He snorts just a little bit.]

Not if locking you up didn't work then.

[personal profile] unknowing_user 2014-01-20 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You have such a high opinion of my troublemaking abilities, and you hardly know me. I'm apparently doing something right.

[He's touched, really. The smile says it all and makes you want to punch him in the face too I bet.]

But you have to admit I kept people on their toes.
ja307020: (smirking)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-20 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tron snorts again, but there's a faint smile there. Aw, you cheered him up, Sam.]

I can see why you and Quorra got along.

[Of course, Quorra is in a User world of her own now, isn't she? But she's tough and smart and one of the small handful of programs that Rinzler unreservedly respected, and Tron figures that she's doing just fine.]

[Operation Distract the Cat was a success then.]

Imagine what we could do if we were allowed to plot properly.

[And isn't that a bittersweet topic. But she did survive all that crazy in the grid, earth should be a cakewalk for her, and she'd forgive him for not showing her the sunrise like he promised.]

She'd probably have this entire station memorized by now.
ja307020: (looking)

[personal profile] ja307020 2014-01-20 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She would have.

I don't want to know what you would do together.
unknowing_user: (eh it could happen)

[personal profile] unknowing_user 2014-01-20 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course you do. Even if just to know how to plan around such or watch the fireworks. There wouldn't be a dull day at all.

"We are here because we received the distress signal from the station, and wish to help as many in danger as we can."

She spoke slowly, trying not to antagonize him any more than he already was. "The situation above us is growing graver as the fires spread, so please allow us to get you to safety for now."
dhianeila: (monkey heroics)

[personal profile] dhianeila 2014-01-20 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well..." she started with a small smile to try and encourage him. "Perhaps you can try to explain it a little to me. What's different. And in doing so maybe help yourself sort out how you feel about it."
senseandcecilbility: (nonface)

No. [He replies rather gravely.] I am not.

"I think I'm going to end up trying quite a few different snacks myself, once I can ask somebody to return here for me before we're due to depart."

She leans in after that, close to Rena as she lowers her voice.

"I think that woman is interested in this stand as well! So if you want to try the cake, I think you're in a bit of a race for it, now."
senseandcecilbility: (so zen)

[He lets Oz go and stands up. But not before tweaking his nose, a gesture he has learned from...He frowns, allowing the pain to come and... well, not go, but become manageable. He smiles in spite of himself. When he speaks again, he sounds like he is scolding the boy, but not quite.]

That is not how punishment works, you know. Deciding by yourself what you deserve or do not deserve is cheating. [And then a little more lightly.] I say, right now you deserve cocoa. Not coffee. Not yet. But do not worry, the nebula will wait until then.

[And this is how Pinoko found him. The man looked very frustrated at the laptop. Maybe they didn't have computers where he was from? Or maybe he was trying to check his e-mail and it wasn't working. It wasn't going to work. Pinoko had already tried that on her phone to no avail.

However, Pinoko was nothing if not helpful, and she wandered over to Wrathion.]

If you're trying to check your e-mail or something, it isn't going to work. We're out of range of any networks except the fleet network. Or is it something else?

[Pinoko was being polite at least. She was't flat out asking if Wrathion didn't know how to use the laptop. But then... it at least seemed to be turned on?]
freeprince: (Congo)

[personal profile] freeprince 2014-01-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ It was turned on, but damned if he knows how to use an operating system like this. He doesn't know how to connect to the net, he doesn't know how to use a GUI system... and frankly, he is only now working out how to use a mouse. Or well, touchpad, n this instance ]

I am attempting to access the fleet's databases. I was told that they can be remote accessed.

( that prompts a slight narrowing of his eyes, but oz doesn't the press the point. there's a story there, likely painful, and he won't be the one to raise that specter right at this moment. the nose tweak does make him laugh, wrinkling his nose reflexively, and he raises a hand to jokingly wave kevin off.

deciding by yourself what you deserve or do not deserve is cheating. he considers ruefully how it's an echo of things he's heard before and is starting to understand, if by centimeters. )

With marshmallows?

[Siiiiiigh.]

Wouldn't need a job here if that was the case. You two would be enough.
tinywife: (Default)

[personal profile] tinywife 2014-01-21 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Pinoko wasn't the most tech-savvy person ever, but she had one of those fancy Japanese cell phones, so that counted for something, okay? As it was, she walked over, looking at the display.]

Well... Pinoko doesn't know everything about the system but I think you'd need to at least have some sort of login or way to sign in to the fleet database. Even if not, there should be some sort of picture or something on the desktop to show what each program is.

[Oh, Pinoko. You're assuming that space computers run some variant of Windows. This can only end in tears.]
freeprince: (Gargoyles)

[personal profile] freeprince 2014-01-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yeah they obviously use Linux.

Either way, Wrathion frowns all the more to be in this position - with their woman looking over his shoulder and giving him advise on it. He briefly looks at the "desktop," doesn't see any menus, and discards that advice. He'll work out what minutes he needs to go on later, so instead he turns to see her better]

You aren't native to this fleet either.
unknowing_user: (Come on man)

[personal profile] unknowing_user 2014-01-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
[You know you love the both of them. Admit it murdercat.]

I'd be more incline to feel sorry for you if you hadn't done that last week and made me think my heart stopped. Instead I'm going to stand here and gleefully think of new ways to make you realize you don't need me and Q here to feel that way.
tinywife: (pinoko and largo)

[personal profile] tinywife 2014-01-21 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Well... looking over his shoulder was probably the wrong perspective. She was more looking over the top of the desk at the screen. Pinoko was the size of a human child. (Or maybe a gnome, for something in Wrathion's frame of reference.) Though his statement is correct.]

You're right. I'm new around here too. Computers aren't that hard. Most of them tend to be pretty user-friendly, but it might take some time to figure out a new system.

My name is Pinoko! What's yours?

[The man seemed friendly enough, even if he did seem a little clueless when it came to technology.]

[Janeway has to wonder if the pause is the result of translator difficulties. If it's really a good idea to carry on discussion of a concept that might not cross cultural gaps very well.

Well, it's done -- trying to shift gears would probably work as well as trying to close Pandora's box. Better to address it.]

It is. Fiction can play a significant role for humans. Stories help us pass on traditions, provoke thought on topics people might have overlooked otherwise. It helps create and nurture our identity as a culture.

ten (the hangers)
( He's just had his spark shoved back into his body, and while that's all well and good Starscream is pretty irked about it happening it in the first place. He's also upset about any number of things up to and including being taken from Cybertron right after he got elected to lead it.

He finally had it all - Megaton was out of the way, the Autobots and the Decepticons were both banished - it was just him and his planet. His planet. He'd won, and this is where it got him?

Irritation rolling off him in waves as he transforms into robot mode, he ignores the scrambling of the organics around his feet. They took his spark from him, they can deal with the consequences of him getting it back for the moment - brushing a few aside to pick up the crown that was sitting next to him. Ah, well, at least there's that.

Starscream might not be the most personable robot in the hanger bay, but he's certainly the most flamboyant looking at the moment. That crown is ghastly. )

[He smiles at the waving hand and then tilts his head slightly, almost birdlike, considering Oz's progress.

For the time being, that will suffice.
]

How demanding. You will have to help me find them.

[Are there even marshmallows in space? ]

[ ... Wow. That said, until proven otherwise, he will not assume this is a child. After all, gnomes can be quite capable and members of the bronze dragonflight often prefer gnomish forms, their patron aside. ... That said if she was draconic he would have sensed it by now, but he adjusts his gaze to look at her. ]

The name I've chosen is "Wrathion." And the computers here are quite unlike the ones I've become used to.
tinywife: (blue sky; pensive; butterflies)

[personal profile] tinywife 2014-01-21 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Pinoko wasn't draconic. Sort-of-a-cyborg, yes? But not draconic. God help Dr. Black Jack if he ever had to deal with a draconic Pinoko. Though Wrathion is smart to not assume that Pinoko is a child. It will save his ear drums in the long run.]

Really? What kind of computers do they have where you're from?

[He actually looked pretty human. Well... apart from the eyes. Those were interesting. And red. Pinoko didn't know any people with red sort-of-glowy eyes. At least not outside of anime. She was meeting the most interesting people!
