Test Drive Meme

Did you want to test your characters? Do you want something that you can use for an RP sample without digging up an old thread? Well, here you have it. Pick one or multiple prompts below or, if you want, make a prompt of your own. Just be sure to tag around so that everyone gets plenty of exposure.

1: Explosions in space! Space Bandits attacked the space colony everyone was visiting! Dozens of fighters and mobile armors fly through space, locked in deadly combat. Are you among those battling to save lives? Or are you watching from the windows, praying everything will be safe?

2: Explosions underground! You were part of a trading party, exchanging supplies with an underground penal colony when alien animals burrowed through the walls and started assaulting convict and Confederation member alike! What are you going to do?

3: Explosions over the city! The Colosseum is shooting off fireworks as part of a concert or a sporting event! Are you watching in the crowd, a main attraction, or watching the bright colors from the city?

4: Explosions on an asteroid! You're either observing, guarding, or mining an asteroid! It's rather dull, save for the explosions that rock the ground under your feet. It looks like it'll continue to be just as slow, but... was that something moving in the shadows there?

5: Explosions on a space station! As you approached a research station, you receive a distress signal! Fire's broken out and their systems aren't up to spec! Can you do anything? Are you a part of a scouting crew or out for a joyride in your new yacht? And is this an accident, or something more sinister?

6: Explosions at the gym! Explosive competition! Swimming, weightlifting, running, boxing, someone has just challenged you! Whether they know it or not, you're going to do your best to show them up.

7: Explosions in the past! A star has died! The Fleet is flying through the nebula it left behind, with swirls of beauty as far as the eye can see. If you're the type, you can watch it all you like.

8: Explosions on the road! Most of the traffic on the Teuberg is computer controlled, but some young showoff took his off the grid and promptly caused a wreck! Traffic has been backed up for almost half an hour now, with no way out for you and the people in your vehicle. Are you close enough to see if anyone needs help? Or are you just stuck with people who are as late for their appointments as you are?

9: Explosions in the marketplace! Explosive bargains! You're in a trading hub, surrounded by stalls of all kinds selling every type of merchandise you can imagine! Luckily, you've got enough money to handle a few purchases here. Will you buy one of those daggers on display? An incense burner? Some alien fruit? Or maybe you're on the run from the corrupt guards? Or perhaps you're the one doing the chasing, did someone just steal your wallet?

10: Explosions in your mind! The explosive inspiration that drives this world! Make up your own prompt!

[It doesn't matter where, when, or who is around him, Admiral ZEX is absolutely basking in the presence of humans. Humans left and right, forward and back, humans he can stare at and examine, humans with all kinds of hair and skin colors and each just as invigoratingly, gloriously monstrous as the last to his VUX eye-- ohhhh, he could die happy, so surrounded by humans as he is right now.

Though he would be even happier if one or two or all of them were all his to enjoy in all kinds of ways, besides just looking... hee! hee! hee!

Still, he was absolutely spoiled for choice, and was in no tearing hurry to find one that wouldn't mind being kept by him, all for himself-- not when there were so many to just stare at, his tendrils twitching excitedly around his face and his tail curling with delight, the odd giggle breaking from him.

Which is what he is doing to your character decides to talk to him!]

Nagate eyed ZEX with mild apprehension, unsure of whether he should even be speaking to this stranger. The city was full of aliens of the sort he'd never seen before, but...]

Um... can I help you with something?

[ZEX blinked at the human who approached him. My, my, had he caught a human's eye in return? Or-- ah, no, it sounded more like confusion. The human had probably never seen a VUX before!]

Perhaps you can, my dear human! Why, if it wouldn't be a bother, I would be delighted if you could just tell me one little thing... hee! hee! hee!

[Oh, maybe this guy was just looking for directions or something. That Nagate could help with! Even if he did have a slightly creepy laugh.

Nagate relaxed a little.]

Uh... sure, I guess. What is it?

Would you be so kind as to tell me your name~?

[If ZEX had eyelashes, he would be batting them right now. Heck, if ZEX knew any terrible human pickup lines, he would be using them right now.]

[Wow, this was surprisingly easy!]

Sure, it's Nagate. Tanikaze Nagate.

...And you are?

Admiral ZEX of the VUX, lately residing on Alpha Cerenkov I, at your service, my dear Nagate~ [He bows, sweepingly, with a flourish of his tentacles.] And may I say it's an absolute delight to make your acquaintance! Hee!

[Nagate looked impressed; this was his first time meeting an admiral.]

Wow, I'm sorry -- I had no idea. It's really nice to meet you, too!

[He extended his hand for a handshake, only realizing after the fact that maybe ZEX didn't shake hands.]

Hee! Hee! hee! What are you sorry for?

[Well, ZEX doesn't exactly have hands to shake, but he's observed the greeting between humans before, and willingly wraps Nagate's hand in a gentle tentacled grip! It might be a little uncomfortably caressing and lingering, though. And ZEX might pretend to not know you're supposed to let go.

I mean, really, who would ever want to stop touching a human?]

Uh... right.

[Okay, a little uncomfortable, but Nagate had been through way worse, and he didn't want to be impolite to this extremely friendly fellow. After a moment, though, he tugged his hand back and tried not to rub at it to get rid of the creepy feeling.]

S-So you're an Admiral, right? Sounds like a tough job.

[Awwww. No more touching? Alas! Still, this was some of the closest contact he'd had with a human yet, so he couldn't be too upset.]

Oh, it's not so difficult nowadays! [He flicks a tentacle dismissively, and giggles.] Really, I was mostly in retirement even before I was brought here. There's not much for an admiral to do when there's no war going on, after all! Why, if it weren't from orders from above and a societal leaning towards militarism, I doubt there would have been much of a fleet still standing at the ready, so long after...

[Wait, hmm. This human wouldn't know about the war, would he? There's really no need to tell him about humans being on the losing side of it.]

Well, no matter! What do you do, my dear Nagate~?

[Nagate was mostly just puzzled. Societal leaning towards militarism? Didn't everyone need a military? Who else would be around to defend society if there were no volunteers?]

Me? I'm a Garde pilot for the Cydonia. Actually, most pilots are supposed to go through this whole training program, but I think the Captain pulled some strings for me.

It's great! All the food you can eat, and the people are pretty nice, too.

[this human is for one, positively beaming in his presence, and is examining him back, albeit mostly motivated by scientific curiosity]

Why, you're a handsome looking fellow, now aren't you. Very energetic! And what limb span, oh my.

[ZEX beams in return, and tells the human, flatteringly,] Why, I could say the same about how handsome you are, my dear friend! In fact, my goodness, I'm almost certain you must be many times handsomer than me, by any measure of the word.

[grinning, as he sketches small bob of the head. ah yes.]

Ah, and you can vocalize as well! Wonderful. Thank you very much, sir and or madam. I do suppose beauty norms are rather cultural, but I like to think that I still have a bit of my old flair. Not as much as I used to, but one mustn't complain, because we live in such interesting circumstances.

Sir, if you please~ though you could also call me by name, if you wish! [ZEX bobs a little bow back, and introduces himself,] Admiral ZEX at your command, my charming friend.

And yes, these circumstances are interesting indeed! Though I surely wouldn't complain about my former life, it's so exciting to be surrounded by so many delightfully unique people and cultures, don't you think?

Indeed! I mean, I have had my suspicions about space for years, but to see a place that offers such wonders--to fly in the sky amongst the stars, as I had but only dreamed of in my childhood-! It's enough to make one so positively giddy that the years flow away from yourself for awhile, or perhaps so giddy as to need to lay down for a little bit. Lucky that we were lying down already when they woke us up, isn't it?

[It's the damnable giggling that gets to him. He is not that amusing. If others are to be believed, he's really not amusing at all. No sense of humour, and other such nonsense.

[He's instinctively wary of the tentacles, having combated an enemy with them once before, but that wariness isn't apparent on his face. No, his face is set in his usual unamused scowl.]

What precisely is so amusing to you?

[A three-and-a-half-foot-tall bird with rainbow plumage, nine feet from beak to tailtip, sees that he is watched and poses, even if it's for some tentacled thing.]

[Wow, that sure is a bird!

Not that ZEX really... knows what a bird is. They're not commonly seen in space! If anything, it looks somewhat like a couple other aliens ZEX knows of, except with such beautiful, brilliant fur-- fur?-- covering its body...

It truly is a beautiful creature, even with its two small eyes and even by VUX standards, and ZEX-- though he would normally rather look at something that any other VUX would find disgusting-- finds himself trilling appreciatively at its loveliness.]

[omg you really, really do. It is the best. It is EXPLOSIONS and MAGICAL GIRLS and DRAMA and POWERFUL EMOTIONS. You will laugh, you will cry, you will gasp.]

[yes, good, marvel in the glory that is Tohri. Bask! He deigns to examine ZEX with one yellow eye.]

...hmm. Not elegant, perhaps. But there is some potential there.

[ZEX blinks his eye, then breaks into a smile. The bird may not be able to tell that the cant of ZEX's tendrils means smiling, but, well.]

I'm sure no one looks elegant next to you, my beautiful friend! My goodness, you're one of the most lovely people I've ever seen in my life!

[He is no more surprised at talking birds than he is at anything else, because he doesn't know anything about birds and their abilities.]
